A quickie but a goodie: a croisnut fakeout

If you've read my blog for any amount of time you'll probably see that there is quite a range of different recipes on here. There are recipes for healthy stuff, really unhealthy stuff, complicated multi-stage recipes and also recipes for those who maybe don't have a lot of time to bake. I am aware that there are people who don't spend their whole lives thinking about new recipes, picking up new food gadgets or funny little ingredients. There are lots of people who don't have hours to bake and then clean but who would like the outcome of baking. I'm not the only person who has realized this which is why there are entire grocery aisles full of quick fix, cake in a box type products. I'm not entirely against using these products, but I love if I can use these products to make something better see cinnamon, nut twist bread for an example. So today I'm taking the same idea and making croisnuts.

The cronut is a cross between a croissant and a doughnut potentially invented but certainly popularized by Dominique Ansel Bakery in New York City. This recipe is not the same, it is baked and not fried but not everyone can afford to travel to New York to taste them, so here's my fake out. I used an all over vanilla egg wash which gives a crisp outside and that distinctive vanilla flavour that says doughnuts.

Wanna know how I made these?

This recipe is so simple, it takes less than 30 minutes and you could throw these together half asleep on a Sunday morning and your friends or partner will be very impressed and satisfied!

You will need:
1 egg
1 tsp of vanilla extract
1 pack jus-roll chocolate criossants
Jam or nutella

Icing sugar to decorate

Here's how you do it:

Beat together the egg and vanilla extract and preheat your oven to 180'/350'.

Open your dough

Seperate out the rectangles and stretch them to be longer and wider, then spread jam down the center.

Fold the dough over onto itself and press along the edges

Keeping the seem central, form a circle with the dough and press the ends together and brush the vanilla egg mixture onto the outside

Bake for 10-12 minutes then cool slightly before sprinkling with icing sugar or add vanilla essence and water to form an icing for the top. Decorate and serve with hot coffee!

Just look at those layers!
